National Weather Service freeze zones (2026)

Above normal temperatures are about to give way to a cold, windy weekend east of Albuquerque.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque issued freeze and cold weather warnings for most of New Mexico earlier this week as a low pressure system descends over New Mexico from the Nevada and Arizona border area. High temperatures in Clines Corners are forecast to drop from 65 degrees on Wednesday to 49 by Friday. Moriarty is predicted to drop below freezing Friday night, though communities further west, including Edgewood, are under a freeze watch but temperatures are not predicted to drop below freezing. That same system is forecast to bring freezing temperatures to communities east of the Manzano, Sandia and Sangria de Cristo Mountains, including the Estancia Valley from late Thursday night through Friday morning.

“A Wind Advisory will likely be required for Thursday afternoon/evening across much of eastern New Mexico to cover the strong gradient winds behind the backdoor cold front,” forecasters warned.

NWS also released the fall freeze forecast for the state this week. While most communities north and east of Albuquerque have already experienced frost or freezing weather, Albuquerque is slated to receive a first freeze around Nov. 3.
