In May, then-Clerk-Treasurer Michelle Jones resigned, and she was replaced by Victoria Archuleta. In September, Shaline Lopez accepted the position, where she remained for just a few months.

On Oct. 29, Town Manager Nina McCracken resigned following a series of lengthy closed sessions regarding her performance review. While the commission officially accepted the resignation, Mayor Ken Brennan described the departure to The Independent as “forced” and potentially unlawful. McCracken’s exit went into effect immediately, prompting the commission to begin a search for an interim replacement.

Less than two weeks later, Grants Coordinator Emelia Mulligan departed from her position. Mulligan submitted her two-week notice on Nov. 12, adding to the town’s ongoing staffing struggles, Lopez reported in the meeting.

Lopez herself resigned at the Dec. 9 meeting after a prolonged closed session. She had cited staff morale as “abysmal” earlier that meeting, and she did not respond to requests for comment from The Independent on the reason for her resignation.

The resignations coincide with public concerns over the town’s hiring processes and pending litigation, and commissioners have spent meetings discussing strategies to fill the town manager position as they navigate the personnel shortage.
