A child is dead and two others are in critical condition following an early-morning domestic violence call on NM-333 between Tijeras and Zuzax, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 1:18 a.m. on Feb. 17 after a female caller reported that a male suspect was armed with a handgun. While deputies were en route, dispatchers received multiple updates indicating that shots had been fired.
A statement from BCSO stated that, upon arrival, deputies confronted a man and took him into custody after deploying a Taser. One child was pronounced dead at the scene, while a female victim and a second child were transported to a local hospital.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman issued a separate statement today saying that his office is “trying to cope with the tragedy involving a member of our staff and her two children.”
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the District Attorney’s Office said it would not share additional details. The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing, and identities will be released once next of kin have been notified.
