Edgewood will celebrate its first Holiday Balloon Glow on Saturday, offering residents a free opportunity to experience an illuminated hot air balloon display at Venus Park.

The event, scheduled from 4:30 to 7 p.m., will feature local balloons and pilots at the park located at 171 NM 344. The East Mountain Balloon Group is organizing the celebration, which will include music and food trucks.

Attendees will be able to meet balloon pilots and their crews while watching the balloons illuminate against the evening sky, a spectacle known as a “balloon glow” where tethered balloons light up simultaneously.

“Lots of local balloons and pilots will be sharing the magic and music of the holidays,” organizers said in announcing the event.

The balloon glow represents a holiday tradition that has become synonymous with New Mexico, home to the world’s largest balloon festival held annually in Albuquerque each October.

Admission to Saturday’s event is free.
