A community food drive Monday collected more than 700 pounds of food for the East Mountain Food Pantry, organizers said.

The drive-through event at Flamez Fusion, 12118 N. Highway 14, ran from noon to 4 p.m. and drew donations from residents throughout the East Mountains region. 15 volunteers helped run the event.

Flamez Fusion partnered with Cedar Crest Tire, Polk’s Folly Farm, Diamond Leaf Dispensary, Shamrock Foods and The Independent newspaper to coordinate the collection.

The donations come as the pantry faces a 60% surge in demand this fall. From January through September, the organization averaged 628 food services per month. In November, the pantry exceeded 1,000 services for the first time.

The East Mountain Food Pantry provides nutritious food to families in the East Mountains region.
