Bernalillo County Public Works crews are on alert as a winter storm is expected to move into the East Mountains on Wednesday afternoon and continue into Thursday morning, bringing the possibility of 1 to 3 inches of snow in Tijeras Canyon and nearby high-elevation communities. Forecasts show only a light dusting, if any, for the Albuquerque metro area.

County officials said crews are ready to clear more than 300 miles of East Mountains roadway. Snow removal follows a priority list that starts with high-traffic and windy roads, then moves to collector routes and finally residential streets.

The county reminded residents that property owners must clear any snow left at the end of driveways after plows pass. Crews do not plow private driveways.

Overnight lows are expected to drop to about 25 degrees. Icy roads are likely, and the county urged drivers to slow down, allow more travel time and avoid passing active plow trucks.
